As with the replacement of the Hercules aircraft, we see the Harper government only considering one bid in the matter.
There are good reasons for government purchases - including the military's - to be held under a public tender process. First and foremost is the whole notion of oversight. An untendered process - which is basically what we have here - depends on who can grease the right palms in Ottawa to get the job. The Canadian Government has a very well developed notion of tendering contracts - developed over decades. To not use that process is both foolish and abusive of taxpayer dollars.
Of course, we knew this was going to happen some months ago, but it's yet another nail to be hammered into Harper's political coffin.
A progressive voice shining light into the darkness of regressive politics. Pretty much anything will be fair game, and little will be held sacred.
