Yes, I know we've got an election going in Canada, but sometimes other events in the world overshadow it. Ariel Sharon is lying in a hospital bed in Israel - whether he survives the current crisis is an unknown. Over here, we have Televangelist Nutbar Pat Robertson claiming that God smote Sharon for for dividing Israel.
If that isn't an example of how badly distorted Christianity has become in the United States, I don't know what is. I can't even begin to find words to describe my utter disgust for Pat Robertson. Lately, it seems as if the body politic of Christianity has been taken over by complete loons - whether it's Pat Robertson, Fred Phelps or some of the other organizations out there.
Reasoned, thoughtful comments have been replaced the howling irrationality of idiots for whom thought and logic do not matter.

My Dad had a stroke. The fact that he was grossly overweight, diabetic and was a life-long smoker obviously had nothing to do with it - he must have been punished by god for his sins (taking the lord's name in vain no doubt).
To say nothing about the fact that strokes can fall into the category of "shit happens and it's nobodies fault".
Last I checked, didn't Christian dogma hold that God judged people in the afterlife on judgement day? There's some confusion as to whether everyone's judgement day is the same (at the end of the world) or different (i.e. when you die), but I'm pretty sure it doesn't happen prior to death.
Bet then, I'm an Athiest, so I figure you should be a good person now because you won't have all eternity to make up for it later.
