Harper and His TheoCon Backers...

Just to give a little more insight into the incestuous relations between the Harper Conservatives and Canada's TheoCons, I thought I'd bring a few new tidbits forward.

First, our anonymous commenter who has been following the London, Ontario byelection recently points out this article wherein we find out that not only was religious whackjob Dianne Haskett hand-picked by party mandarins in Ottawa, but the party was setting the campaign up for her in advance of her actually being nominated.

Second, over at Garth Turner's blog, we find out about the preferential treatment that is being granted to clods like McVety when they decide that they wish to hold a "news conference" on Parliament Hill:

At the McVety media conflab this morning, our MPtv guy tried to ask a question along with all the other reporters, and was shut down (very rudely, I might add) by the press gallery poohbah running the show. Not content with embarrassing us in front of the national media, the gallery guys then threatened to kick us out of the scrum area in front of the House of Commons – you know, where the MPs stream out after QP.

Oh, I see. The government's going a step or two further in it's behaviour, and trying to shut down a voice that they don't like.

In fact, a week ago I was doing a standup in the foyer and was asked by the Parliamentary Press Gallery president to move along. He suggested we relocate our operation into an area full of coat racks down the hall. Yeah, coat racks. Now, I am told, the same media meanie is writing to the Speaker of the House to have us blackballed.

I know I'm curious as to why McVety is given a podium on Parliament Hill from which to spew his vitriol, while someone who challenges or disagrees with him finds themselves being shut down.

... and for my Alberta readers, do I really need to remind you that Ted Morton is part of the so-called Calgary School right wingnut conservatism that has been so influential on Stephen Harper's politics? Remember, Stephen Harper sent a bunch of his Alberta MPs out here to stump for Ted Morton in the last week of the Alberta PC leadership campaign. These guys are so thick with each other it's not funny.
